Also, my opinions are my own, and not necessarily those of Blogger/Livejournal/Etsy/anywhere else. I know it's cliche, but I feel like I need that disclaimer ;)
Since my laptop is currently down and I'm stealing my mom's computer while she's at work to write up this post, please know that updates from here until close to the end of 2011 (or beginning of 2012) will be scarce.
That said, let's waste no time and get to the first review!
E-6000
Name: (Amazing) E-6000

Manufactured by: Eclectic Products, Inc.
Country of Origin: USA

E-6000 comes in many different sizes and varieties, and can be used from the smallest craft projects to some of the largest fixes in home improvement.
Since the E-6000 brand is such a large collection, I need to specify that I've only used one of their many different products: Amazing E-6000 Craft Adhesive. You can view the website for it here.
The Pros:
- Works brilliantly on metal.
- Doesn't get super rubbery when it dries, like hot glue.
- Strength is durable and dependable.
The Cons:
- The vapors from this product are very harmful, so you'll need to use this product in a well ventilated area.
- This becomes even more important to stress when you realize exactly how much of the glue comes out. The packaging is sturdy, but it's so sturdy that it makes dispensing very unpredictable. Sometimes the glue doesn't want to come out until you apply pressure, then when you do, it's too much and hard to stop.
The Experience:
The first time I used this product was in my room. I was just going to glue on a handful of earring backs, so I thought it wouldn't even be open long enough to have anything to worry about.
I was wrooong.
As soon as I tried to take out a little dab, it was like...glue Vesuvius. Vegluvius, if you will. When I realized it wasn't stopping, I tried my best to close it, but the fumes had already started to make me nauseous and dizzy. This was amplified in me because I have problems with anxiety, which made it incredibly difficult for me to breathe.
Obviously I was able to calm down, but lesson learned: that glue does not mess around!
Since then, I've taken to using it outside. If you're very careful and patient with your application of pressure to the tube, you can have better control over how much comes out, which considerably lessens the amount of excess. My instinct, since it kind of looks like a toothpaste tube, was to press from closer to the top. I'm wondering if it would have been better if I had pressed from the bottom initially. I'll try that with the next tube I get and edit this post with the result, but they really do give you enough to last a while, so that shouldn't be for a long time.
I've used this product to glue on earring backs, and let me tell you: this is the single best product I've ever found for the task. I've had earrings before that were held on by hot glue, which is better in theory than in practice. After a few uses, the hot glue actually lost it's adhesion and the earring attached fell away. With E-6000, I don't have to worry about that at all. I would easily trust this adhesive even more than Krazy Glue, which doesn't work very much at all in a craft setting. I've actually tried to use Krazy Glue to close corks in small potion bottles and it got flaky, turned white and didn't stick at all.
The Results:
If used correctly, this product is an absolute lifesaver in a variety of situations. I've used it in jewelry, and I could easily use it to repair things like shoes or broken vases. It's aptly named, because it really is an all-around amazing product.
That said, safety is important. When using this glue, I strongly urge everyone to take the proper precautions, even if the smell doesn't bother you. Inhaling the vapors can be harmful, and it may cause skin or eye irritation. Do not eat, drink or smoke while using this product. Wash your hands thoroughly after using and please read all warning labels and directions before use.
